Opportunities Belong To Open Hearts
Opportunities will come and go
Perhaps unfair but most opportunities aren’t always hidden in plain sight. In fact an opportunity wouldn’t even be considered an opportunity if it were so obvious? They come near us in all shapes and sizes, sometimes as cryptic messages yet to be deciphered. If finding opportunities were a skill that you could learn it would change your life but the key would be finding this opportunity before others do.
Sometimes when you hear the word opportunity it also comes with the negative association of “opportunist”. The reason for this is that there is a “dark-side” to opportunity seekers as there are people in the world who seek to gain at the cost of others. This isn’t you and you won’t let false intentions of one spoil the party for everyone. What is true is that everyday we are looking to get ahead and become better versions of ourselves, but something even greater is seeking to gain for yourself and for those around you.
“What good are the riches of the world without someone to share them with”?
To reiterate, earlier we mentioned that if opportunities were obvious to see then it may not be as rewarding and far more competitive. The opportunities that are most rewarding are at times difficult to find, may seem risky and need evaluation. Steve Jobs once mentioned that “You can only connect the dots looking backwards” , which means that this is indeed risky business to begin with. So how do you spot an opportunity?
You don’t. Spotting an opportunity is less about picking the best flower in the field and more about making the decision to walk in a field of flowers. We like to think that making a decision that creates success is only part of the equation. In addition the action you need a setting, in this case we reference a state-of-being or a way to live your life. The flower is only a minor detail in the setting of the field.
The field itself is an analogy for your approach on life. The assumption is that you had a choice in deciding which field of flowers you wanted to visit. Everyday when you wake up you have a choice to make as well.
- Who do I want to be today?
- What sort of impact on those around me do I wish to have?
- How will I respond once I face adversity (because you will)?
Okay, so now you have the action (picking the flower), you have the mindset (walking in the field), now you can sprinkle a bit of luck into the equation, selecting the field. Sure you did your research, but let’s be realistic sometimes in life you need a little luck to get ahead.
“Allow a blank chapter to exist in your book so that serendipitous literature may find it’s way into your story”.
Your daily approach on life is what’s most important in your journey. We cannot grow, learn, or simply exist without others. It can be a single person that changes your life for better or worse. Some questions to ask yourself:
- Am I kind to others?
- Am I willing to lend a hand when needed?
- Should I expect something in return if I share?
- Am I willing to share?
Do not aim to be perfect as it is unattainable but a common myth that has been debunked time and time again is that you can live a driven lifestyle and still be an incredibly kind person. A fine example of this is someone like Keanu Reeves, a hard-working and majorly successful movie star that enjoys walking among everyday people. He still maintains the title of “Hollywood’s coolest actor”. A business mogul that you may or may not know is Howard Shultz the now former CEO of Starbucks. Howard has teamed up with colleges across the United States to offer free part-time to full-time education for its employees. This shows that the biggest decisions in your life don’t always have to be “business decisions” and that you can use your power to do good things.
People want to be surrounded around those who are positive, happy, content, fulfilled, and centered. It rubs off on them as it does on you, which makes relationships better. You may be wondering why we are discussing so much about people and how we treat them? It is here where your opportunity lies. Being an amazing person will take you places you never thought were possible. You will be surprised how willing those around you will be willing to give their seal of approval (their word) for something that you seek or need help with.
By the time you are ready to pick your flowers, the stars may have already been aligned setting you up for a long and successful life.
